Biography

Gallupville (Schoharie County): Minnie Hotaling 87 of Route 443, Gallupville passed away Thursday, October 8th at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady after a brief illness.

Minnie was born April 20, 1922 in Leesville, Town of Sharon a daughter of Dominick and Fannie (Falzarano) Ferro. She attended the one-room schoolhouse in Sharon and later transferred to Sharon Springs Central School graduating in 1938. Furthering her education, she became a member of the first class when Oneonta Normal then became a NYS Teachersí College graduating with a bachelorís degree in elementary teaching in 1942. She began her teaching career in Ancram in Columbia County in a 2-room rural school where she taught for 3 years. On July 24, 1944 she married Donald R. Hotaling of Gallupville and following the WWII settled in Gallupville where she lived until her passing. After raising her son she resumed teaching elementary grades in Schoharie Central School for many years until her retirement in 1977.

She was a communicant of the Gallupville Evangelical Lutheran Church, a charter member of the Gallupville Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, an active member of the town of Wright Democratic Club and the Town of Wright Senior Citizens, the Schoharie County Retired Teachers Association and for several years served as chairman of the Cancer Crusade in the town of Wright.

She was predeceased by three brothers, her parents and her husband Donald. Minnie is survived by one son, James F. Hotaling of Schoharie and four grandchildren, Diane (Tom) Kozak of Alaska, Karen (Sal) Polizzi of Buffalo, Kylie Hotaling of Schenectady and Amy Hotaling of Schenectady, five great-grandchildren Noelle and Mariska, Luke and Cristofer, and Sadiyah.

Calling hours will be held from 6-8 PM on Tuesday, October 13th at the Langan Funeral Home, 327 Main Street, Schoharie. A funeral service will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, October 14th at the Gallupville Evangelical Lutheran Church with burial following in the Gallupville Rural Cemetery.
