Charleston (Montgomery County): Rena E. Horton 69, of East Lykers Road died suddenly Saturday, September 4, 2010 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam after a long illness.

Rena was born August 19, 1941 in Randall, NY a daughter of Clarence A. and Leona (Slater) Elmore. She graduated from Canajoharie High School in 1959 and later was a consultant for Stanley Home Products. Rena was a homemaker and also assisted on the family dairy farm for many years. She was a former member of the Charleston Christian Church and attended the Cornerstone Baptist Church. She was a Sunday School Teacher and Vacation Bible School Teacher along with the five-day Bible Club and Child Evangelism in Charleston. She was a member of the Friendship Bible Coffee Club, the Charleston Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and was a founding member and 4-H Leader for the Charleston Cheetah’s. She enjoyed doing crafts including crochet, reading, playing solitaire and baking.

She is survived by her husband Carl H. Horton whom she married October 3, 1959, five children Laura (Kevin) Compton of Cortland, Dena (Salvatore) Maiorana of Binghamton, Sanford (Lisa) Horton of Charleston, Melissa (Rick) Hansen of Johnstown and Linda Sue (Brandon) Davis of North Chili, NY, two brothers Douglas Elmore of Tarpon Springs, FL and Dennis (Linda) Elmore of Gloversville, two sisters Marjorie (Seymour) Hayes of Broadalbin and Patricia (Bernard) Smith of Mesa AZ, 14 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Rena was predeceased by one sister Carolyn Albrecht in 1972.

Calling hours will be held from 7-9PM on Wednesday evening at the Langan Funeral Home, 195 North Main St. Central Bridge. A funeral service will be held at 1PM on Thursday September 9th at the Cornerstone Baptist Church, 7274 State Rt. #10, Ames, NY. Burial will follow in the Charleston Christian Cemetery.
