Biography

Richmondville (Schoharie County): Eleanor Holmes 93, of Main Street, Richmondville died Tuesday, March 29th at the Cobleskill Regional Hospital after a brief illness.

Mrs. Holmes was born January 13, 1918 in Richmondville, a daughter of Smith and Louisa (Mitchell) Patrick. She graduated from the former Richmondville High School in 1936 and later, received her degree in Early Childhood Education from Cobleskill Ag. & Tech (SUNY). She taught nursery school in her home for many years before beginning her career with General Electric in Schenectady as a Clerk-Typist which spanned many years before her retirement in 1978.

Eleanor was a lifelong and active member of the Richmondville community. She was the current oldest member of St. Paulís Lutheran Church where she also taught Sunday school and served as itsí school superintendent. She was a member of the Eureka Class, Altar Guild and the Marion Study Club along with being a charter member of the Thursday Bible Study and also served as church secretary. She was a member of the Richmondville Craft Club and also enjoyed genealogy, family history, knitting, reading and her African violets.

Survivors include her son, Gary L. (Fatima) Holmes of El Paso, TX, two grandchildren Jesus Rene Holmes and Patricia Sida, three great-grandchildren, Patrick Flores and Jesse Lee and Valerie Holmes. She is also survived by cousins on the Patrick and Mitchell sides and also her dear friend Sandra Deems of Delanson.

Calling hours will be held from 6-8 PM on Monday April 4th at the Robert A. Guffin Funeral Home, 108 Chapel Street Cobleskill. A funeral service will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, April 5th at St. Paulís Lutheran Church, 265 W. Main St. Richmondville. Burial will be at a later date in the Richmondville Rural Cemetery.
