Esperance (Schoharie County): Charles J. Hotaling 76, of Creekside Lane died Wednesday August 31st at his residence with his loving family by his side.
Mr. Hotaling was born February 4, 1935 in Berne, NY a son of John and Catherine (Keyser) Hotaling. He attended Schoharie Central School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1954 serving his country until 1957. Charles worked for over 20 years at the Watervliet Arsenal as a machinist until his retirement in 1994. More than anything he enjoyed spending time with his family, but was also an avid gardener, and loved to travel. He was a member of the Gallupville Fire Department and the Scho-Wright Ambulance.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Lou (Sherman) Hotaling whom he married December 20, 1957, four children Kristie (Mike) Maiorana of Sharon Springs, John Hotaling of Gallupville, LouAnn (Thomas) Pierce of Gallupville, and John (Gladys) Caplan of Troy,10 grandchildren Jessica(Joshua)Zwick, Anthony(Noel) Maiorana,Kristen(Jake)Danielsen,Alisha(Kalmon)Dunston,Andriene Pierce,Paul Pierce,James Pierce, Jodi(Joe) Wilson, Cathy Hotaling and Crystal Hotaling and 13 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and one brother George Hotaling, and two sisters, Elizabeth Darling and Leona Cameron.
A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family in the Gallupville Rural Cemetery. A memorial service will be held September 10, 2011 at 2pm at the Duanesburg Reformed Presbyterian Church 6512 Western Turnpike Rt. 20, Delanson, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Charles to Catskill Area Hospice, 795 E. Main St., Suite #11, Cobleskill, NY 12043, or Gallupville Fire Department.
