Cobleskill (Schoharie County): William D. Gilmore, Jr. 64, of Overlook Dr., Cobleskill died Monday, January 19th at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital after complications from recent surgery.
Mr. Gilmore was born March 22, 1944 in Schenectady, a son of William D. and Margaret (Wallace) Gilmore, Sr. He and his wife have lived in Cobleskill for over 40 years. He graduated from Burnt Hills Ballston Lake and later received an AS degree from SUNY Cobleskill and a BA and MA from SUNY Albany along with some post graduate credits. He retired in 1995 from SUNY Cobleskill as Vice President of Administration.
Bill was a member of the Board of Directors for the SUNY Business Officerís Association and served as Secretary and 2nd Vice President. He was a member and Chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee and the TCP Negotiation Committee for the upgrade of computing within SUNY Colleges and Ag. & Tech Colleges and served on the Board of Governors. He was a member of the Schoharie County Chamber of Commerce and the Cobleskill Partnership, Inc. Bill was nominated for the Chancellorís Award for Excellence in Administrative Services, an honorary member of Phi Theta Kappa, and was inducted to the Business Hall of Fame at SUNY Cobleskill in 2007.
Billís other community service included serving as Cobleskillís Mayor for 6 years and Trustee for 3 years. He was a Boy Scout Unit Commissioner, a Salvation Army Bell Ringer and an active member of the Cobleskill United Methodist Church, the Barnerville Methodist Church and the Beards Hollow Society and the Cobleskill Fish & Game Club. Bill enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, the outdoors, automobiles and history.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy (Reed) Gilmore who he married May 19, 1967. Two children, Erin (Frederik) Lehmann, of Maynard, MA and Todd Cameron Gilmore of Somerville, MA along with one grandson William Augustus ďGusĒ Lehmann.
Calling hours will be held from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Friday, January 23rd at the Robert A. Guffin Funeral Home, 108 Chapel Street, Cobleskill. A memorial service will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, January 24th at the Cobleskill United Methodist Church, 109 Chapel Street. Rev. Pamela Mikel-Hayes and Pastor Brenda Lewis will co-officiate. Burial will be private.
